A haven that invites you to surrender to what is becoming….

Liminal: from the Latin “limen” or threshold.

A liminal space exists between what was
and what is becoming.
A porous boundary between paradoxical stories.

Liminalia is a threshold between contradictions:  a new house with an old soul, a place of solitude that comes alive with gatherings, a domestic haven that dances with the wild, and land that holds ecstatic pleasure and exquisite pain. Alchemical properties create the perfect container for releasing what no longer serves you, surrendering to your new self, a new story, and a new culture.

Welcome

I am “Deva Daruu” or Sacred Cedar, presiding over Liminalia, the ancient one.

My roots encompass the bones of whales and the skeletons of fish that used to live in the sea that covered these lands. My company used to be cedars, firs, and hemlock. We would entertain ourselves watching bear and cougar wander by. Chinook salmon fed me then, still feed me today, when they make their annual pilgrimage up the creek.

Not that long ago, humans who called themselves Chinook and Clatskanie passed through this area on their hunt for food. What feels like just yesterday, white settlers cleared out most of my brethren and drove off many of the creatures who lived in these dense woods. In the blink of my eye, my company has returned and new humans built structures on my soil.

The humans who now call this place home show their love for this space by walking the trails, watching the moon rise while their fires make my needles dance, and climb into my root womb. They call this space Liminalia, because they have experienced its power to transform and heal.

I love having humans come visit. I offer healing, calm, and inspiration to humans taking a break from noise, busyness, and asphalt.

As humans arrive, they seem to only see what others have created. Slowly their vision expands to include all of the beings here. Once they shed…
the city…
shoulds…
shouldn’ts…
stories…
…they experience Liminalia — the alchemical space. The dance between construct and nature.

Listen to the amphibious songs of the spring. Taste sun-warmed wild berries along the trails to the cold swimming hole. Watch the salmon complete their autumnal journey home to Rock Creek. Smell the wet earth in the winter as eagles soar over the bare tree tops.

When you visit, give back as much as you receive. Sing, make offerings, fertilize my soil, show your reverence. Document your transformation and inspiration… I love photography, art, music and poetry.

Cross the threshold — see who you become.
